Hair-Care Tips Between Salon Visits
Great hair isn’t only made in the salon chair. These everyday habits help your cut and colour stay in good shape between appointments.
Brush gently
Detangle from the ends upwards, using a wide-tooth comb or a brush designed for wet hair. Wet hair is more fragile, so avoid tugging. Curly hair is usually best detangled with conditioner in it.
Go easy on the heat
- Always use a heat protectant.
- Rough-dry until hair is mostly dry before using a round brush.
- Choose the lowest temperature that does the job, and avoid passing straighteners over the same section repeatedly.
Protect your hair while you sleep
A silk or satin pillowcase reduces friction. Loose braids or a soft scrunchie can help prevent tangles and breakage, especially for long hair.
Keep hair moisturised
Use a conditioner every time you shampoo and a mask once a week or as needed. Dry, coloured or lightened hair often benefits from a regular salon treatment.
Think about the weather
Hot, sunny summers and dry, cold winters can both be tough on hair. In summer, protect hair from sun and chlorine. In winter, a leave-in conditioner can help with dryness and static.
Book trims at the right interval
Regular trims keep your shape and remove split ends before they travel. As a rough guide, shorter cuts need more frequent trims than longer styles, but ask your stylist what suits your cut.
Use the right products
Ask your stylist which products suit your hair type and colour. Using less product, applied properly, often works better than using more.
