Bridal Hairstyling: How to Prepare
Wedding hair needs to look beautiful, suit your dress and last all day. A simple timeline takes the stress out of planning.
A planning timeline
- As soon as you have a date: contact the salon to check availability, especially for peak wedding season. Ask whether on-location services are available.
- A few months before: gather inspiration and think about your dress neckline, veil and accessories.
- Around 1–2 months before: have your bridal trial. Bring your veil or accessories and photos of your dress.
- 2–3 weeks before: book colour so it has time to settle and any adjustments can be made.
- About 1 week before: a light trim if needed. Avoid big changes.
Make the most of your trial
Wear a top with a similar neckline to your dress, and do your trial on the same day as a makeup trial if you can. Take photos from all angles and in different light. Notice how the style feels after a few hours.
Colour timing
Don’t try a dramatic new colour close to your wedding. If you want to change your colour, start early so there’s time to adjust it. Remember that colour services may need a patch test before each appointment.
The morning of
- Arrive with hair washed and dried as your stylist advises. Many styles hold better on hair that isn’t freshly washed.
- Wear a button-up top so you don’t disturb your hair when changing.
- Build extra time into the schedule, especially if several people are getting ready.
Your bridal party
Tell the salon how many people need styling and what time you need to be ready. This helps plan the schedule and the number of stylists. Request a bridal consultation to start planning.
